Mtskheta, Gori & Uplistsikhe day tour offers a journey through some of Georgia’s most important cultural and historical landmarks.
During this one-day trip, you will explore the historic regions of Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Shida Kartli, both rich in heritage and ancient monuments.
The tour includes Mtskheta, the former capital of Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and its deep spiritual significance.
You will also visit Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, and continue to the remarkable cave town of Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn settlement carved into the cliffs above the Mtkvari River.
This tour combines history, culture, and unique landscapes, offering a compact but rich introduction to Georgia’s past.
In the morning, you will depart from Tbilisi towards Mtskheta, one of the oldest cultural, historical, and religious centers of Georgia, and its former capital.
Your first stop is Jvari Monastery (6th century), located on a hilltop overlooking the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
You will then visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most sacred places in Georgia, associated with the legend of Christ’s robe.
Afterward, you will have time to walk through the charming streets of Mtskheta and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
The journey continues to Gori, known as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, where you will have the opportunity to visit the Stalin Museum and explore the city.
Next, you will travel to Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn town dating back to the 6th-4th centuries BC. This remarkable site features a unique blend of pagan and early Christian architecture carved into the cliffs.
In the evening, you will return to Tbilisi.
